Featured Gig | Kurt Rosenwinkel – Lantaren Venster Rotterdam

Written by | Concerts, News

Guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel was picked up in 1991 by vibraphonist Gary Burton direct from the Berklee School of Music. Their collaboration made Rosenwinkel one of America’s most respected guitarists. Having worked with Joe Lovano and Joe Henderson, to name just a few and praised by colleagues like Pat Metheny and John Scofield, Kurt is a role model for the current generation of jazz guitarists, not only because of his virtuosity, especially because of his openness of mind and his successful rock and hip-hop explorations.

The guitarist from Philadelphia returns to Lantaren Venster in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) with a brand new and special project, entitled CAIPI. The Observer recently wrote about the album:

“On a string of incredibly underrated solo albums released by Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest—2008’s The Renaissance, 2009’s Kamaal The Abstract and the still-unreleased “lost” LP Open—Rosenwinkel has made himself known as one of the most in-demand session players around today. Rosenwinkel, now a resident of East Berlin and an esteemed professor at the Jazz Institute—turns a new page in his career, stepping out from his role as an instrumentalist extraordinaire to debut his first album as a singer-songwriter, Caipi.”
