Why “Beyond”?

When we say beyond, we mean it in two distinct ways. Geographically, our reach extends well past Europe’s borders: our writers, artists, and readers span every continent, and our coverage follows great music wherever it leads. But beyond also speaks to genre. Jazz has never existed in isolation. It breathes the same air as blues, soul, and world music — traditions that share improvisation as their common language.
