Bobby Sanabria on the making of West Side Story Reimagined.

Written by | News

In our Winter 2018 print edition of the Jazz In Europe Magazine we featured an interview multi-Grammy-nominated drummer, percussionist Bobby Sanabria. At the time Bobby had just released his award-winning album “West Side Story Reimagined”. On Tuesday the 27th of August, Bobby will give a lecture at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem where he will speak about the making of the album.

Hailed as a masterpiece and the greatest musical score ever written for Broadway, Bobby will take you through time as he covers the show’s origins, its socio-political significance, its unique use of jazz, opera, and Latin rhythms and his awe-inspiring big band all Latin jazz ‘re-imagining’ of this timeless classic!

The event is part of the New York International Salsa Congress and organized in partnership with the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.

For those readers based in New York, this is a great opportunity to hear the back story of this project straight from the horse’s mouth. If you can’t make the event you can read Darrell Craig Harris’s interview with Bobby here.
