Amsterdams iconic jazz venue the “Bimhuis” opens it’s 2017-18 season on September 7th. The Bimhuis was founded in 1973 and until the summer of 2004 was located at Oude Schans 73-77 in the heart of Amsterdams Red Light district. In January 2005 it moved to it’s new location on the Piet Heinkade 3, next to the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, on the southern bank of the IJ river.

Opening the 2017-18 season is Almeida / Duynhoven / Klein, an acoustic trio featuring three well-known figures from the Dutch scene. Their album Vibrate in Sympathy (Clean Feed) contains compositions inspired by 50 years of adventurous music.

The careers of these musicians encompass a dazzling variation of musical directions, from South Indian music to metal and even opera. Consequently, their acoustic trio is inspired by adventurous music in the broadest sense. Alto sax and bass clarinet player Tobias Klein is a member of the electric avant-jazz/metal band Spinifex alongside bass player Gonçalo Almeida. Drummer Martin van Duynhoven is a household name in Dutch jazz since the 1960s. Tobias Klein composed the lion’s share of their album Vibrate in Sympathy, including tributes to his great examples on alto sax, Henry Threadgill, Ornette Coleman and Oliver Lake.

‘Klein’s simple, heartfelt and honest alto, Almeida singing on bass and Duynhoven’s little breaks using the brushes… the trio plays honest and forthright improvised music to which I will gladly listen to in the future’ (Salt Peanuts, Norway).

The line up is, Tobias Klein alto saxophone/bass clarinet, Gonçalo Almeida bass, Martin van Duynhoven drums
