Jazz In Europe Magazine – Autumn 2021

The current edition places its main spotlight on Igor Butman, recognized as Russia’s leading jazz figure, offering readers insight into both his artistic voice and his role in shaping the country’s contemporary scene. Alongside this cover story, a series of conversations highlight different facets of the global jazz community. Guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg and Polish saxophonist and festival organiser Sylwester Ostrowski appear together in *How Jazz Cats Always Land on Their Feet*, while Camille Thurman reflects on her dual path as saxophonist and vocalist within the theme *Breaking Barriers – Women in Jazz*. Tuba player Jon Sass is highlighted in *Another Side of Jazz*, and vocalist Jazzmeia Horn discusses the ideas underpinning her latest album.

Elsewhere, writer Peter Jones contributes an article around his book *This is Bop*, returning to the innovations and enduring influence of bebop. Visual storytelling features strongly in *Behind the Lens*, where Italian photographer Elena Caminati offers a personal selection of her photographic work. Finally, Jan Fritz continues his *Vinyl Corner* series, turning attention to the latest in vinyl releases and rounding out an issue that connects music, literature, and image within the broad spectrum of today’s jazz world.
