Last night in Los Angles the 62nd edition of the Grammy awards were held. Clocking in at almost 4 hours long, the Recording Academy was clearly in no rush to get through this year’s awards, which kicked off with a solemn a cappella tribute to Kobe Bryant by Boys II Men.

In the Jazz Category, Randy Brecker took the Grammy for Best Improvised Jazz Solo while Esperanza Spalding notched up her 4th Grammy win taking the award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Amongst stiff competition, in the category Best Jazz Instrumental Album, the honours went to Brad Mehldau for his album Finding Gabriel. This award marks the first win for Mehldau after the string of nominations. The award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album went to the Brian Lynch Big Band for their album The Omni-American Book Club. In the category, Best Latin Jazz Album, Chick Corea took top honours.

In the Blues genre, Best Traditional Blues Album went to Delbert McClinton & Self-made Men for the album Tall, Dark & Handsome while the honours for Best Contemporary Blues Album went to Gary Clark Jr. for his album This Land
