Two famous Belgian jazz festivals celebrate their birthday in New York

This year two the most eminent jazz festivals in Belgian celebrate their birthday, Gent Jazz Festival and Jazz Middelheim (Antwerp). Gent Jazz will hold it’s 15th edition this year while Jazz Middelheim presents it’s 35th edition. The birthday party will take place in New York, the jazz capital of the world, on Wednesday the 25th of May.

The place to be that night in New York is Le Poisson Rouge, one of the hippest clubs in town. Four groups led by Belgian musicians will perform there. It’s not just about the anniversary of these two Flemish jazz festivals, the organizer of this event, vzw Jazz & Muziek (Jazz and Music Foundation), aim’s to support and draw attention to the Belgian jazz scene.

Special guest in Le Poisson Rouge that night is the Flemish Minister of culture Sven Gatz while top chef Viki Geunes will surprise the attendants of the concerts with Belgian culinary specialties.

Performing that night are the Carate Urio Orchestra led by Joachim Badenhorst, Jozef Dumoulin & The Red Hill Orchestra, the Robin Verheyen NY Quartet and Teun Verbruggen’s Bureau of Atomic Tourism (BOAT). ,,Belgian jazz of international acclaim’’, states the venue, that is located in 158 Bleecker Street.
