Written by British singer Mica Millar will release her second album A Little Bit Of Me this spring. Self-written and self-produced, it was recorded at Miraval Studios on Brad Pitt’s estate in southern France. The album covers soul, R&B and blues from a contemporary female viewpoint.
The title track “A Little Bit Of Me” came out on 21 January. It is now joined by the second single “See You On The Other Side”, released today, 6 March. “See You On The Other Side” features trumpeter Keyon Harrold and is dedicated to women’s health ahead of International Women’s Day. Mica Millar said: “When I wrote ‘know the rivers gunna take me home’ I worried that it would conjure a picture that men might find distasteful—dare we talk about period blood despite it being completely natural. It still makes me feel slightly uncomfortable but I think it’s so important that we navigate this better.” She calls it a reminder of “this too shall pass”.
Both singles appear on Jazz In Europe playlists. “A Little Bit Of Me” is now the lead track on the “Jazz Vocals” playlist. “See You On The Other Side” is included on the “New Releases” playlist.
The album follows a difficult period for Millar. In 2020, during promotion for her debut Heaven Knows, she broke her back in an accident. Recovery took nine months, including relearning to walk. She wrote the 14 new songs at Miraval with musicians Marcus Finnie (Taj Mahal, Keb’ Mo’), Jay White (Macy Gray), Daniel Weatherspoon (Beyoncé) and Adam Smith (Erykah Badu).
Heaven Knows (2022) was mixed by Brian Malouf, who worked with Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. It was mastered at Abbey Road Studios. Millar won Jazz FM’s Soul Act of the Year award and joined the Recording Academy. She toured Europe with Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie and Gregory Porter, playing sold-out shows in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Poland and Estonia.
Millar will release her second album A Little Bit Of Me independently on her own Golden Hour Music label, continuing her self-managed approach.
