Curtis Stigers | Gentleman

Written by | New Releases Page

Vocalist, songwriter and saxophonist Curtis Stigers announces his forthcoming album Gentleman – an 11-track collection of songs that offer a unique view of loss and love – due out on May 1st, with the first pre-release single ‘Gentleman’ out now.

Stigers’ new album offers a wry yet elegant reassessment of the modern male. Along with his own lyrical observations, penned in collaboration with longtime partners Larry Goldings and David Poe, Stigers also calls on the help of top songwriters Nick Lowe, Tom T. Hall and John Fulbright, and a stellar line up of musicians comprised of organist Larry Goldings (James Taylor), bassist David Piltch (k.d. lang), drummer Austin Beede (Alastair Greene Band), trumpeter John “Scrapper” Sneider (Madeleine Peyroux), percussionist Doug Yowell (Duncan Sheik) and cellist Jody Ferber (Esperanza Spalding).  Stigers and Goldings share the producer credit.

Curtis Stigers is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist with a 28-year recording career. His repertoire is a reflection of his appreciation for the fundaments of tone and craft, and for quality—the progression of his work is both organic and practical. “Jazz songs used to be pop songs. Jazz has always been about reinvention,” Stigers notes.

Gentleman is an album about being a good man from one who aspires to that title, and the result offers Stigers’ most personal, resonant, and vibrant collection to date.
