Kevin Brady Trio | Ensam

Written by | Buy Direct

Irish based Drummer & Composer Kevin Brady started his musical relationship with heavyweight US pianist Bill Carothers over 12 years ago. This transatlantic connection has now already yielded three fine albums, with his latest project PLAN B now including saxophonist Seamus Blake being planned for release in 2020.

But Ensam raises the bar more than a few notches here in the groups artistic output. Carrother’s ruminative playing peels the drummer’s compositions open like flowers in the sun, and Brady and bassist Dave Redmond both respond with subtlety and finesse. Add a guest appearance by peerless UK vocalist Norma Winstone, a couple of choice standards, a funky Keith Jarrett tune and pristine sound production, and you have a recording that ranks among the best produced jazz albums of recent years. The Irish Times
