Written by Danish jazz star Mads Mathias and his quartet as he returns to Pizza Express for a five-day celebration of Christmas music from the Great American Songbook. The concerts will take place each lunchtime at 1:00 pm with each day featuring a special guest. The when and who of these are listed below.
Mads Mathias is an award-winning vocalist, songwriter and saxophonist, who has captured the hearts of music lovers with his charismatic performances, spirited personality and creative original songs. Inspired and influenced by the great jazz vocalists of the past and present from Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra to Harry Connick Jr, and with a deep respect for the jazz tradition, Mathias is nevertheless an original talent with a unique and effortlessly charming vocal delivery and a skill for writing catchy and memorable, stylishly crafted tunes.
Mathias returns to the UK after sold-out tours last year including the London, Cheltenham and Edinburgh Jazz Festivals, and guest appearances at the ‘Swing No End’ BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and EFG London Jazz Festival’s ‘Jazz Voice’ at the Royal Festival Hall.
