Jimmy Glass Contemporary Jazz Festival kicks off 15 October.

For more than a quarter of a century the Jimmy Glass Jazz Bar has been a stalwart of the jazz scene in Valencia hosting many of the jazz worlds leading artists from around the world. Jimmy Glass is located in El Carmen, a historic neighbourhood in the old city centre of Valencia with a long tradition of culture and entertainment. This area of twisting alleys and small plazas filled with a large number of bars, pubs and restaurants is one of the liveliest nightlife zones in the city.

Jimmy Glass has acquired a well-deserved reputation in the jazz world in over 27 years of operation for its exclusive dedication to the music, without falling prey to commercial clichés, and its commitment to the most cutting-edge artists on the present-day scene. That policy has given the club the stamp of credibility, both in the media and among fans.

Spanish jazz historian and critic Jorge García once wrote that “The atmosphere is charged with a mysterious collective energy that has provided many memorable evenings of music. They say that sometimes, on the other side of the Atlantic, the dead kings of jazz are dancing in their graves to the music coming to them live and direct from a little blue corner of Baja Street in Valencia.”

To celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2011, Jimmy Glass presented the first “International Festival Of Contemporary Jazz”, featuring leading figures in the contemporary jazz world, as part of its continuing effort to raise the profile of Valencia as a centre for top-quality jazz. Now in its 8th year, the 2018 edition of the festival is set to launch this coming Monday (15 October 2018) and runs through to the end of November. The festival features a strong international line-up along with local Spanish artists including among others, James Carter, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Mark Turner, Melissa Aldana, Gregory Hutchinson, Logan Richardson, Lage Lund, Jure Pukl, François Moutin, Javier Vercher and Mat Maneri.

The festival includes 8 concerts in the Official Section and 16 performances in the Off Festival section, bringing together jazz from different styles, trends and origins showcasing the current international jazz scene. The line up for the Official section of the festival is included below. For the full schedule and tickets visit the Jimmy Glass Website here.
