Winter Jazz Fest 2018 – Köln Germany

Written by | Festivals, News

On the 6th of January 2018 the German city of Köln (Cologne) will once again host the mini jazz festival Winterjazz. The Winterjazz festival has been described as a ‘Jazz-Trial-Marathon’ by the newspaper Zeit. Now, Winterjazz 2018 returns for its 7th edition with a broad array of styles ‘made in Cologne’ in its line-up. The festival start’s at 6:30pm and entrance to the concerts is free.

During this musical highlight at the start of 2018, approx. 50 musicians will perform 18 concerts which reflect the diversity and vitality of the Cologne jazz scene as well as its sheer endless wealth of new projects and working bands. There will again be five stages, all within walking distance from one another. The main concert hall Stadtgarten, together with Studio 672 and the Café-Restaurant, now represent the European Centre for Jazz and Contemporary Music. The adjacent venues Zimmermann’s and Umleitung are the perfect setting for more intimate concerts.

Sax player Angelika Niescier adapted the New York Winter Jazzfest idea and moulded it into a well-established showpiece for jazz hot spot Cologne, known far and wide beyond city limits. Curious, interested or outright jazz-savvy? Winterfest 2018 presents a perfect opportunity to dive into the internationally acclaimed Cologne jazz scene just for one evening. Discover and enjoy!
