Estrella Acosta & Esquina 25 | Bimhuis, Amsterdam, March 29

Written by | Concerts, Featured Concerts

Cuban singer Estrella Acosta and her Latin jazz quintet Esquina 25 celebrate the release of their eponymous CD.

Esquina 25 brings together seven top international musicians from Cuba, Venezuela, Germany, USA and the Netherlands: Marc Bischoff (piano), Efraim Trujillo (sax/flute), Samuel Ruiz (bass), Armando Vidal (drums/percussion), Gerardo Rosales (percussion), Estrella Acosta (vocals) and special guest Carlos Irarragorri (tres guitar).

Their personal take on Cuban music offers room for inventivity and improvisation. Esquina 25 was named after a street corner in Havana, a symbolic meeting point between cultures, generations and musical genres. Estrella grew up in Cuba and came to Amsterdam by way of Austin, Texas. Her band consists of five of the greatest talents the Dutch Latin and jazz scenes have to offer. ‘An excellent performer who knows how to create the sunny and boisterous atmosphere characteristic of Cuban music’ (De Stentor).

Speciaal voor deze cd-presentatie speelt Carlos Irarragorri uit Cuba mee als gastsolist.

Afterwards: DJ JAIRZINHO plays Afro-latinLatin and Salsa d’Afrique
