Viktoria Tolstoy, Stations

Written by | New Releases Page

The new album by vocalist Viktoria Tolstoy is a reflection of her very own understanding of jazz – with pieces by Swedish composers on the one hand, and of American jazz and song greats on the other. The piano seat of her new band is now, after Esbjörn Svensson and Jacob Karlzon, manned by Joel Lyssarides, a rapidly rising star of the Nordic jazz piano scene.

The dictionary says: “Station: A certain place…”. Which could be almost anywhere, but in Viktoria’s case, the word carries more of a storyteller’s wish to visualize a dream of a certain place at a certain time. The songs she has chosen for this album all carry this wish, this dream that she wants to share with you as the listener. Each and every one of the songs has its own mood and is its own story, every song is like a station in time and mind.

With her unique voice, Viktoria Tolstoy invites you to take a trip along different roads and moods together with her wonderful crew, Joel, Krister, Mattias and Rasmus; and as she states in the title song by the iconic Swedish singer-songwriter Stina Nordenstam: “it’s never too early – it’s never too late.”
Enjoy!
