2017, The year in review.

As 2017 draws to a close we look back on a great year of Jazz. Here at Jazz In Europe, we’re happy to report that the platform has had it’s the most successful year since launching in 2013 achieving over 1.7 million page views. Also, our average readership has now grown to over 50,000 unique visitors per month. With this in mind, we want to thank our writers, without their contribution we would not be able to exist. Most importantly we want to thank you, our readers, for supporting Jazz In Europe. In 2018 we’re looking forward to moving Jazz In Europe to the next level and regarding this, stay tuned for some exciting news later in January. Top Interview, Reggie Washington

Our interview with bassist Reggie Washington was the most read artist interview on the website in 2017. In December Reggie sat down with Andrew Read to discuss among other things his latest release “Rainbow Shadow – Vol2”. This album is the second in a series that pays tribute to the late and great Jef Lee Johnson and features Reggie’s current band with Marvin Sewell – Guitar, Dj Grazzhoppa – Turntables and Patrick Dorcean on Drums. Having been read over 13,000 times, Reggie’s interview came in just above my interview with Ola Onabulé with almost 12,000 views.  Read the interview with Reggie here…

Top Artist Feature – Christian Sands.

In the lead up to Pianist Christian Sands first European tour as a leader, we published an extensive artist feature on this up-coming jazz star. The article proved very popular with our readers generating over 11,000 views. Read the article here..

Christians tour turned out to be a huge success and saw him sell out rooms throughout Europe in October. Our London correspondent Erminia Yardley and photographer Carl Hyde were at Ronnie Scott’s in London to catch Christian Live, their review can be read here..

Top News Item – Tom Ibarra

The most read News item on the site in 2017 was the announcement that young French guitarist Tom Ibarra had won the Letter One, Rising Stars award. Tom read about this award on Jazz In Europe and decided to enter. With this in mind, we were proud to be the first to announce that Tom had won. Read more here…

Top Historical Article – Clifford Brown, The Bach of Jazz.

Our most read historical article of the year was Lynn René Bayley’s analysis of Clifford Brown’s solo construction and the parallel to the Bach. Lynn Bayley writes about classical and jazz music and is the Author of the book From “Baroque To Bop And Beyond!”. Lynn has contributed a number of in-depth historical features on Bix Beiderbeck, Django Reinhardt to name a few, however, this article with over 15,000 views is the top ranking.
